Spike in COVID-19 cases, another outbreak reported

Lambton Public Health is reporting a double digit spike in new COVID-19 cases.

In its daily update Wednesday, the health unit reported 22 new infections for a total of 3,861 since the start of the pandemic. There were no new resolved cases reported, increasing the active case count by 22 to 79.

The number of outbreaks has increased to four. The latest was declared at the Generations Day Care-Queen Elizabeth Site. There are fewer than five cases linked to the facility.

There are no COVID-positive patients at Bluewater Health.

The local incidence rate per 100,000 population also increased to 48.9 for the week of September 19 to 25, from 32.8 the week before. The positivity rate was 3.1 per cent, up from 2.4 per cent.

Since the vaccine rollout launched in late January, 182,982 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered through the health unit, Bluewater Health and local pharmacies. To date, 76.1 per cent of individuals 12-years-old and up have received two doses of a vaccine, 81.4 per cent have had one shot.
