Suspect in hit-and-run spree, reoffends moments after release

The Sarnia Police Service said the suspect allegedly responsible for a series of hit-and-runs Sunday afternoon involving a stolen truck, was arrested again on Monday.

Cst. John Sottosanti said Trevor James Clark, 29, was released by bail court at 1:13 p.m., and at 1:21 p.m., police were called about the theft of a vehicle hauling a boat.

He said the vehicle, along with the trailer and boat, were taken from a gas bar at Exmouth Street and Christina Street, while the owner was putting air in the trailer's tires.

It's alleged the suspect was travelling at a high rate of speed south on Christina Street and on side-streets before coming to a stop in the area of London Road and Norman Street.

"Fortunately there was an officer in the area and he observed the vehicle with the boat and observed the accused, but the accused decided to run and also left the vehicle in gear," said Sottosanti. "Because of that, the officer's priority was to assure everyone else's safety so he ran to the vehicle, before giving chase, and put the vehicle in park."

After a brief chase the suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Trevor Clark is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation, failing to comply with a release order, and theft over $5,000.

He was being held pending a bail hearing.
