United Way campaign nearing 30 per cent mark

The Sarnia-Lambton 2021 United Way campaign is hoping to keep up the momentum in the weeks ahead.

So far, $460,000 or 27 per cent of the $1.75 million goal has been raised through employee campaigns and mail-in donations.

United Way Executive Director Dave Brown says already over 850 people have contributed to the fundraising effort.

"We are very encouraged by the fact that we're seeing some people that have not donated before, for the first time make donations," said Brown. "And, we've also seen some people actually increase their donations from last year, so we're very encouraged by that and we hope that that momentum carries."

Brown said Shell Canada employees will kick off their campaign this week, as well as NOVA Chemicals. The Bagel Factory on October 1st is launching a month-long fundraising effort and donating $1 from every dozen bagels sold.

The United Way helps fund 20 local agencies providing 40 programs and services.
