No serious injuries following hit-and-run spree in Sarnia

A 29-year-old Sarnia man accused of causing five collisions in one afternoon has been arrested after he was "tripped up" by a cyclist on the Howard Watson Nature Trail.

Sarnia police said a hit-and-run involving a stolen pick-up truck was reported at around 1 p.m. Sunday at Exmouth Street and Christina Street. The white pick-up was reported stolen earlier from a variety store parking lot at Indian Road and Wellington Street.

After the first collision, police said the stolen vehicle drove north on Christina Street but ended up boxed in while waiting at a red light in the area of Murphy Road and Exmouth Street. An officer started to approach the vehicle when the suspect allegedly rammed into the vehicle in front and drove through a red light.

Police said the pick-up truck swerved in and out of traffic and onto curbs. The stolen vehicle then reportedly rear-ended another vehicle that was stopped at a pedestrian crossover at Exmouth Street and the trail.

The suspect got out of the vehicle and ran onto the path where he was chased by police.

Officers said the suspect was tripped by a cyclist on the trail which allowed police to catch up. He was arrested after a struggle took place.

Sarnia police said Trevor James Clark was charged with the following:

- Theft of motor vehicle

- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

- Failure to stop after an accident (five counts)

- Flight from a police officer

- Resist peace office

- Drive while under suspension

Charges against the accused have not been proven in court.

Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported during the incident.

Sarnia police are thanking members of the public who specified to police where the suspect was going.
