Unveiling ceremony held for Sarnia Indigenous flag plaza

A special unveiling ceremony is being held Saturday at Sarnia's Indigenous community flag plaza, located at Bayshore Park.

The United Nations Declaration of Rights and Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) Committee completed the plaza back in June.

Flags are on display from Aamjiwnaang, Kettle and Stony Point, and Walpole Island First Nations. The outer ring of the flag plaza features the Medicine Wheel that embodies the Four directions, as well as Father Sky, Mother Earth, and Spirit Tree.

The ceremony gets underway at 3 p.m. and will feature representatives from local Indigenous communities.

The event is by invitation only but is being live-streamed on the City of Sarnia's Facebook page.
