Law Society Tribunal suspends Sarnia paralegal

A Sarnia paralegal has had her licence to provide legal services suspended for a month.

The Law Society Tribunal alleged that Denise Rejeanne Simpson engaged in professional misconduct, which resulted in her immediate suspension.

A penalty hearing was held by videoconference on September 16. A panel found that Simpson allegedly failed to co-operate in three Law Society investigations by not providing proper information and documentation as requested.

In addition to the suspension, Simpson will have to pay $4,485 in costs to the Law Society before September 16, 2022.

In a hearing held earlier this year, Simpson cited personal and health-related reasons for not responding to the Law Society’s requests for information.

The paralegal also testified that she did not respond due to uncertainty on whether or not she would continue with her practice, read a hearing report.
