Flood warning continues as levels on the Sydenham River peak

The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) has renewed a flood warning as water levels in some areas are expected to peak Friday evening into Saturday afternoon.

Flood advisories were initially issued on Wednesday during a significant rainfall event.

Conservation officials said water levels continue to rise in the mid-to-lower reaches of the Sydenham River, which may impact the areas of Brigden, Florence, and Dresden.

Meantime, water levels in the upper reaches of the Sydenham River near Strathroy, Alvinston, and Petrolia have started to fall.

Several roads are closed because of flooding. They include:

- Fairweather Road between Aberfeldy Line and Oil Springs Line (Township of Enniskillen)

- Pretty Road between Stanley Line and McCallum Line (St. Clair Township)

- Waterworks Road between Courtright Line and Moore Line (St. Clair Township)

The SCRCA is reminding residents to avoid shorelines, watercourses, and flooded areas for safety reasons.

The flood warning will remain in effect until Sunday.
