Local COVID vaccinations top 180K

Over 30,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered locally in the last two months.

Lambton Public Health said since the launch of the vaccination rollout in January, 180,303 shots have been given through the health unit, pharmacies, hospitals and primary care physicians.

The health unit said 80.5 per cent of eligible residents 12-years-old and up have had one dose of vaccine and 74.9 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Lambton Public Health reported six new confirmed cases of the virus Wednesday up to 3,784, and seven cases have been deemed resolved for a total of 3,662, lowering the active case count by one to 53.

Bluewater Health has one COVID-positive patient in hospital, unchanged in the last 24 hours, and there is one outbreak at Gregory A. Hogan Catholic School.

The local incidence rate per 100,000 population spiked to 32.8 for the week of September 12 to 18, from 19.9 the week before. The positivity rate was 2.4 per cent.
