Significant rainfall expected for Sarnia-Lambton

We're in store for plenty of rain the next couple of days.

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for Sarnia-Lambton.

The national weather agency says showers and thunderstorms are forecast to begin Tuesday evening and continue through at least Wednesday night.

Meteorologist Gerald Cheng said this big system will bring a lot of rain to southwestern Ontario.

"It starts already [Tuesday] a little bit.  There's an appetizer to this system because it's already unsettled -- there's a chance of showers.  But the real big rains will come Tuesday night and through Wednesday," said Cheng.  "I know that everybody is trying to hold on to what's left of the summer, but we have to get used to these big systems that can bring big rains and big winds."

Total rainfall amounts between 50 and 60 millimetres are expected by early Thursday morning with higher amounts in excess of 75 millimetres from multiple thunderstorms.

Environment Canada said the heavy rainfall is due to a cold front and moisture laden low pressure system arriving from the American Midwest.
