COVID incidence rate up in Sarnia-Lambton

Sarnia-Lambton's COVID-19 incidence rate saw a spike last week.

On Wednesday, Lambton Public Health reported the rate of infection per 100,000 population increased to 19.9 for the week of September 5 to 11, from 6.1 the week before. The positivity rate was 2.4 per cent.

The health unit reported no new cases of the virus on Wednesday, leaving the caseload since the start of the pandemic at 3,729 confirmed infections. The number of resolved cases increased by one to 3,631, lowering the active case count by one to 29.

Six cases are linked to area schools within both the public and separate school boards.

Bluewater Health has two COVID-positive patients in hospital, unchanged from Tuesday.

Since the vaccine rollout began in late January the health unit said nearly 178,000 doses of vaccine have been administered through the health unit, pharmacies, physicians and the hospital. To date, 74 per cent of individuals 12-years-old and up have received two doses of a vaccine, 79.5 per cent have had one shot.
