Former Sting star helps announce team's next captain (VIDEO)

A former Sarnia Sting star, and current Tampa Bay Lightning captain, helped announce the OHL team's new captain on Friday.

Steven Stamkos appeared in a special video to congratulate Brayden Guy on earning the "C" for the upcoming season.

Guy said it's truly an honour.

"It means a lot to me and from the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank everybody for the opportunity," said Guy. "I have been here a while and seen some great captains come through the organization and it really means a lot to me to have this honour."

Guy is entering his fourth and final season with the Sting after being selected in the third round of the 2017 OHL draft.

The 20-year-old Brampton native has played 161 career OHL games, all with the Sting, recording 43 goals and 37 assists for a total of 80 points.

Sting General Manager Dylan Seca congratulated Guy on his big accomplishment.

"His professionalism both on and off the ice is something that aligns with our organizational core values," said Seca. "His leadership and character will help our program as we transition out of the pandemic and back into a return of Sarnia Sting hockey."

Guy joins the likes of Alex Galchenyuk, Jordan Kyrou, and Ryan McGregor as recent team captains.

The Sting will be in London on Friday night to face the Knights to kick off the preseason schedule.

The two teams will match up again Saturday at Progressive Auto Sales Arena, and the Sting will open the regular season October 7 in Windsor.
