Virtual program offers school bus safety tips for young riders

A program that familiarizes young children with school buses and school bus safety is available virtually this year.

CLASS Shared School Services General Manager Kent Orr is inviting parents and guardians to review the first time rider video with their children before the first day, September 7.

"It's a new experience for some of the parents and guardians and it's definitely a new experience for the young riders, so there's a little bit of anxiety and concern and wondering what it's going to be like and what to expect," said Orr.

He said the video is great for those entering kindergarten and grade one.

"The safety video will go over waiting at the bus stop, boarding the bus, the safety zone around the school bus is a really important message we cover and that talks about areas that are of real concern because of visibility and danger for the kids. It also talks about riding on the school bus, sitting in your seat and basically the experience on the bus for kids."

Orr said CLASS has enough drivers for every route this upcoming school year and they're ready to go.

"Route information is available online through our website. Parents and guardians can log into the parent portal and get bus information for the fall. We also have additional service information about how we're running our COVID-19 protocols again."
