Weekly COVID incidence rate up in Sarnia-Lambton

Sarnia-Lambton's COVID-19 incidence rate spiked last week.

Lambton Public Health reported Wednesday that the rate of infection per 100,000 population was 11.5 for the week of August 8 to 14, up from 2.3 the week before. The positivity rate also increased from 0.34 per cent to 1.29 per cent.

The incidence rate topped-out at 160 per 100,000 population in March.

There were four new confirmed cases for a total of 3,660 since the start of the pandemic. Of those, 3,575 are considered resolved, unchanged from Tuesday, which means the active case count went up by four to 17.

To date, 71.4 per cent of the eligible adult population is fully vaccinated and just over 77 per cent have had one shot. The health unit said 18.4 per cent of youth aged 0 to 17-years-old have had two doses of a vaccine.

Bluewater Health had one COVID-positive patient in hospital, down one from Tuesday.
