Fire on Zion Line causes substantial damage, kills several cows

The Ontario Fire Marshal's Office has been called after a fire in the 7400 block of Zion Line resulted in the death of over 100 cows.

Fire crews from Warwick-Watford were called to the scene around 12:20 a.m. Saturday.

Warwick Fire Chief Brad Goodhill said tanker assistance from Brooke-Alvinston was also provided. The fire was extinguished in roughly three to four hours.

Members of Lambton County OPP were also at the scene to assist with traffic control.

Goodhill said although no injuries were reported, approximately 150 cows died as a result of the fire.

A damage estimate has not been determined yet.

"It'll be substantial because it is a total loss," he said. "We're still waiting for insurance adjusters to arrive and then cleanup is going to come in immediately."

Goodhill said it's still unknown what started the fire.

The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture has been notified of the incident.

As of 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Goodhill said most fire crews have left the scene but some, including himself, are still there.
