"Hockey Hub" immunization clinic wraps up

The final dose of COVID-19 vaccine at the mass immunization clinic in Point Edward was administered on Tuesday.

Since the clinic was set up at the arena on March 22, over 85,000 doses of vaccine have been delivered.  There were 276 staff who worked at the site, and 186 people helped out, resulting in 24,276 volunteer hours.

Lambton Medical Officer of Health Dr. Sudit Ranade told Sue Storr on CHOK (103.9FM/1070AM), that smaller clinics will be set up at the Point Edward Community Hall for those who still want or need to get a vaccine.

"So we're just shifting the focus now to smaller clinics in more places, just to give people more access points if they need it," said Dr. Ranade. "Really shifting the focus away from large scale immunization clinics, because the demand isn't there, to smaller scale ones."

Dr. Ranade said to date, just under 69 per cent of individuals 12-years-old and up are fully vaccinated, and 76 per cent have had one shot.

"We've done now over 166,000 doses," he said. "I mean, this is just remarkable to me. This is one of the most intensive vaccination effort for sure in recent memory and maybe even in not so recent memory."

There's a drop-in vaccination clinic at the Brooke-Alvinston Arena on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. No appointment is necessary.  For a full list of clinic times and dates, visit www.getthevaccine.ca
