United Way jumps on 50/50 bandwagon for latest fundraiser

The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton is jumping on the 50/50 draw bandwagon, in hopes of raising some much needed funds for local organizations.

Executive Director Dave Brown said they support 20 organizations that deliver 40 programs and services across the community.

"Our goal this year is $1.75 million, which will support currently 20 organizations that are local," said Brown. "They provide local assistance to people who might have mental illness, seniors, youth and those living in poverty."

The first of 12 monthly draws is underway, with the winner being announced on September 15. An early bird draw, presented by Drewlo Holdings, will be held on August 24.

"50/50 draws, not only locally but across the province, have been successful," said Brown. "While we don't expect to be as successful as maybe some other organizations, we do believe that it will go a long way in helping us. After a number of months, we're finally glad to be in the position where we've sold our first tickets."

Funds raised during the first six months will go toward the 2021 fundraising goal, while the rest will support the 2022 campaign.

It's hoped between $40,000 to $50,000 will be brought in.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.united5050.ca.
