Santavy finishes 4th in Tokyo

A Sarnia weightlifter came up just short of the Olympic podium in Tokyo.

Boady Santavy finished fourth in the 96-kilogram weight class Saturday at the 2020 Olympic Games.

The 24-year-old had a combined lift of 386 kilograms, a single kilogram less than the eventual silver and bronze medal winners.

Santavy, whose grandfather Bob competed in the 1976 Olympics, was taking part in his first Olympic games.  He was also the only male weightlifter on Canada’s Olympic team.

Earlier this year, Santavy set a Canadian and Pan AM record with a lift of 181 kilograms in the snatch event.  He went on to win a silver medal at the games.
