Scaled back Captain Kidd Days on in Corunna

Captain Kidd Days in Corunna has returned for its 36th year, after having to go virtual in 2020 due to the ongoing pandemic.

Chair Geoff Dale said they still scaled things back a bit, and moved the party to Bad Dog restaurant on Lyndoch Street.

He said it was obvious people were happy the weekend event was back when tickets for the Pirate Patio Party sold out in record time.

"So people have pre-bought tickets, that's different for us this year, typically we're a walk-up event, but people bought tables of up to six that will be socially distanced on Bad Dog's patio," said Dale. "Our Friday and Saturday are sold out, our Saturday sold out in 23 minutes, that's how quick it was."

Also Saturday is a scavenger hunt from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and the Captain Kidd Ambassador Contest from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.. For more click here.

Dale said money from this year's event will go towards rebuilding a skateboard park in Corunna.

"We won't be fundraising the entire amount in one weekend obviously, that's a multi-year commitment for the park," he said. "We're hoping to end up between $15,000 and $20,000 with Captain Kidd this year."

The weekend event is named after the infamous Scottish sailor Captain William Kidd.

Legend has it, the notorious pirate buried treasure in the St. Clair Township community.
