Window closing for back-to-school vaccinations

Lambton Public Health has announced more walk-in clinics to help eligible students get a first or second COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible.

Family Health Manager Kevin Churchill said the window for youth ages 12-17 to get both doses to ensure their safe return to school is starting to close.

"Those that received their first dose 28 days ago can book an appointment or drop-in to selected clinics for their second dose now," said Churchill. "For those who still need their first dose, we would like to see as many young people as possible get vaccinated this week in order to ensure they can get their second dose in ideally 14 days before school begins on September 7.”

A walk-in option, for youth ages 12-17, has been added to four clinics this week.

• Wednesday, July 28 at The Shores Recreation Centre in Forest from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or while vaccine supply lasts.

• Thursday, July 29 at the Dawn-Euphemia Community Centre in Florence from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., or while vaccine supply lasts.

• Thursday, July 29 at the Wyoming Fairgrounds Building in Wyoming from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or while vaccine supply lasts.

• Friday, July 30 at the Clearwater Arena in Sarnia from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or while vaccine supply lasts.

Eligible youth can also book second dose appointments at any local clinic using the health unit's online registration.

The health unit said 59.1 per cent of youth aged 12-17 have received one or more doses of a COVID-19 vaccine in the region, with 34.6 per cent considered fully vaccinated with two doses.
