Vehicle flees scene after taking out hydro pole

Sarnia police are looking for the driver of a vehicle that left a trail of damage, in an early morning crash Saturday.

Officers were called at about 4:45 a.m. to a collision in the 800 block of Devine Street, and found a hydro pole had been snapped in half.

Police said a witness claimed a car mounted the curb, hit the pole and then nearly struck a fire hydrant before driving across a front lawn, through some bushes and then hit a fence.

With the help of a witness description, and the fact the vehicle was leaking fluids, officers were able to track down the red 2012 Chrysler 200, however the occupants were not with the car.

The road was closed for several hours while Bluewater Power repaired the downed pole.

Police are attempting to identify the driver involved and anyone with information is asked to contact Cst. Uriah Dodge at 519-344-8861, extension 6225 or Sarnia-Lambton Crime Stoppers.
