Feedback sought on relocating Murphy Road Transit Terminal

Sarnia residents are being asked for their feedback on potentially relocating the Murphy Road Transit Terminal to Clearwater Arena on Wellington Street.

The city has launched an online survey on the proposal.

Project Manager Andrew Epp said the east end of the city is growing, and represents a large portion of their ridership.

He also said there's no more room to make enhancements at the Murphy Road location.

"An initiative that we're proceeding with is the electrification of our bus fleet," said Epp. "We're best served to put the electric features at Clearwater than to do a lot of construction at Murphy Road. The Clearwater facility also allows riders to stay inside on bad weather days to get out of the elements."

Epp said there are plenty of amenities nearby, including the ice rink, new library branch and Howard Watson Nature Trail.

A grant under the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program would cover about 73 per cent of the nearly $1.8 million cost, with the city paying $477,000.

You can give feedback until August 20 at www.speakupsarnia.ca or by emailing transit@sarnia.ca.

Pending approval, it's hoped the project will get underway in the spring and be completed for summer of 2022.
