Bluewater Power urges electrical safety on the dock

With the hot summer weather upon us, many residents will likely be spending time out on the dock, and Bluewater Power wants to make sure safety precautions are followed.

The utility is offering some tips to avoid electric shock, or even death.

CEO Janice McMichael-Dennis said, in general, water and electricity don't mix.

"A lot of it is common-sense, like making sure your cords are never damaged and there's never any frays that you can see on cords around your dock," said McMichael-Dennis. "You need to make sure if there's a problem or something isn't operating properly, that you turn off the power immediately."

McMichael-Dennis said it's also mandatory for docks to be equipped with a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter.

She said public docks already have these safety measures in place.
