Student athletes awarded with 2021 Stefanko Award

Two students from Sarnia-Lambton are being recognized for their athletic and academic achievements as they pursue sporting opportunities at a post-secondary level.

Hannah Elliott of Northern Collegiate Institute and Vocational School and Core Jackson of Lambton Central Collegiate & Vocational Institute (LCCVI) have been awarded this year's Stefanko Award.

During her time in high school, Elliott has been involved in basketball, volleyball, and track and field, according to a release from the Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB). Elliott has also been involved in a peer mentorship program at Northern Collegiate and has supported young athletes as a basketball camp counsellor.

Jackson received academic honours and athlete of the year awards while in high school. He also participated in volleyball, badminton, basketball, and baseball.

“These student-athletes are role models in their communities, as they balance the commitments of academics and athletics while demonstrating leadership amongst their peers and in their schools," said Director of Education John Howitt. "We wish them the best as they continue to pursue their athletic and academic careers.”

Elliott will be attending Washington State University on a rowing scholarship. Jackson received a baseball scholarship at the University of Nebraska.
