SIU ends investigation into man's injuries

The province's police watchdog has cleared officers of any wrongdoing in connection to a man who was injured prior to an arrest in Strathroy-Caradoc.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said on June 8, a 25-year-old man allegedly stole a motorcycle and two pickup trucks before crashing all three vehicles. Officers with the Strathroy-Caradoc Police Service later located and arrested the man on Adelaide Road, west of Falconbridge Drive.

The man was taken to hospital following his arrest where he was diagnosed with serious injuries.

"Based on the SIU’s preliminary inquiries, which included an interview with the man, it is apparent that the man’s injuries were incurred in one or both of the pickup truck collisions; the police had nothing to do with them," the SIU said in a statement.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates incidents involving police officers that have resulted in death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
