COVID-19 death toll rises again

There has been another local death related to COVID-19.

Lambton Public Health reported the 65th death due to the virus in its daily update Wednesday. The health unit said an individual in their 20s passed away at a hospital outside of Lambton.  It's the second local death this week.

No new infections were reported, leaving the caseload since the start of the pandemic at 3,626.

The number of cases deemed resolved increased by two to 3,555 and the active case count dropped by three to six. Bluewater Health had one COVID-positive patient in hospital, unchanged from Tuesday.

The health unit said the rate of infection per 100,000 population was 11.5 for the week of July 4 to 10, up from 9.2 the week before. The positivity rate also went up slightly to 0.95 per cent from 0.82 per cent.

Over 54 per cent of eligible adults have received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and 74.2 per cent have had at least one shot. Lambton Public Health said 4.5 per cent of youth are fully vaccinated.
