Chamber of Commerce seeks nominations for Business Achievement Awards

This year's Outstanding Business Achievement Awards (OBAAs) will highlight the "unsung heroes" who have gone above and beyond for customers and employees during difficult times.

The Sarnia-Lambton Chamber of Commerce will recognize the success of local businesses and individuals during a virtual ceremony on October 22.

"Now is a golden opportunity to recognize some of those people that truly deserve a little extra recognition," said Chamber of Commerce CEO Allan Calvert.

The nomination deadline for the annual OBAAs is July 11 at 11:59 p.m., and the submission deadline is on July 25 at 11:59 p.m.

There are 11 award categories in total, Member of the Year, Non-profit of the Year, Business of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year, Customers Service (business and individual), Cool Place to Work, Tech-novation, Agri-business, Inclusivity, and Health, Safety and Environmental Leadership.

"It's a terrific opportunity for we citizens of this great county to recognize those businesses that not only stand out during regular business but have weathered this COVID storm and it seems like we're making it to the other side," said Calvert.

However, Calvert also mentioned that there are still "some dark clouds on the horizon" for businesses.

"I will say that the collaboration of businesses in this community has been terrific! It's like a support group if you will," he said. "We often talk amongst each other on a regular basis to exchange ideas as to what works and what doesn't work."

Calvert said there have also been businesses that would like to hear from the chamber even more which is why outreach has been expanded.
