Boost in ticket sales for 2022 Bluewater Borderfest

Approximately 70 per cent of VIP tickets for the postponed Bluewater Borderfest have been sold as people are eager to get back to live music and festivals.

Borderfest was postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The rescheduled event would have taken place last weekend but was postponed again to next year. Organizers said Our Lady Peace and Finger Eleven are now set to take the stage on June 25, 2022.

Organizer and Tourism Sarnia-Lambton Executive Director Mark Perrin said it's bittersweet to postpone Borderfest again but they're happy the event will eventually be held with its original headliners.

He also said organizers are looking forward to announcing additional acts in the coming months.

"The industries are just laying out some different tours where the artists will be travelling and we're keeping those negotiations open … we want to keep growing the festival," he said.

Tickets that were previously purchased for the festival will be honoured in 2022.

Perrin said it appears people are eager to attend festivals with tour dates being announced (more so in the U.S.) and with Ontario moving into Stage 2 of the province's reopening plan on June 30.

"We've actually seen lots of ticket sales since our announcement for next year so there's a lot of hype and excitement with having the event next June which feels like a lifetime from now but we're excited to keep the event going," said Perrin. "With everything continuing to move forward with vaccines, it's putting people in a positive direction to say, 'we feel confident that next summer we will have major events and festivals.'"

Perrin said since announcing the festival's postponement in early June, nearly 500 tickets have been sold.

With the majority of VIP tickets already sold, Perrin said those who want the front-row experience should act "sooner rather than later."

"[We're] looking forward to having socialization, and large events, and music back in Sarnia-Lambton," he said.
