Kinsmen drive-thru Ribfest exceeds expectations

There was a steady stream of traffic for the first ever Sarnia Kinsmen drive-thru Ribfest.

Chair Jack Struck said they were hoping about 2,000 vehicles would make their way to the Lambton College parking lot over the three days.

"The count we got between the ribbers and ourselves was about 3,350 cars and we averaged about four people to a car, most of the people that stopped at the pods were a family of four," said Struck. "Financially, we did alright on the donations, nothing to what we do when we have the big one."

In past years, the annual outdoor event raised over $10,000 for over 30 local charities.

Struck said for the first time with this format, he thinks it was a success.

"I think it went very smoothly," he said. "The ribbers were quite pleased with talking to the people and so on and so forth, they were glad to see it back, all good compliments."

The Kinsmen Club in December held a reverse drive-thru Santa Claus parade at the college, and collected $18,000 in donations.
