The Sarnia-Lambton United Way is making some changes to its funding allocation process.
Executive Director Dave Brown said the organization is in the final year of its three-year community investments and is reviewing the agencies for the next funding cycle beginning April 1, 2022.
He said they will be allocating funds on a one-year basis until further notice.
"We just felt that with the whole COVID-19 situation, we've come to realize that needs in our community can change so quickly," said Brown. "So, with us having been committed to three years, it doesn't give us the flexibility to meet those new and emerging needs as they may occur."
Brown said they've also slightly adjusted their three target areas, which are all that kids can be, from poverty to possibility and healthy people strong communities.
"Healthy people strong communities would include our seniors funding and mental health, of course the kids is youth programming and from poverty to possibility is fairly new for us, that's for those people who unfortunately are in poverty and are looking for some assistance to either get them out of poverty or to make their lives as positive as possible," he said.
Agencies have until the end of June, 2021 to submit a letter of intent to the United Way, and full program applications are due on September 15. Click here for more information.
Currently, the United Way helps fund 20 local agencies providing 40 programs and services to the community.
