Free activities launched for Father's Day weekend

Families can head outdoors without spending a dime this weekend to celebrate Father's Day.

The provincial government will allow free fishing and free day-use permits to Ontario Parks on Saturday and Sunday.

Although access to provincial parks is free for the weekend, day-use permits can be reserved in advance at 17 parks.

Pinery Provincial Park is one of the 17 locations participating in a pilot program this summer.

Residents who opt to go fishing are encouraged to obey fishing regulations and follow conservation catch limits.

“I encourage all families to take advantage of the great weather and celebrate the day, while also being responsible and continuing to follow all public health advice, including physical distancing,” said Jeff Yurek, Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks.

Under Stage 1 of the province's Roadmap to Reopen, outdoor gatherings are allowed for up to 10 people.
