Summertime contest aims to boost Sarnia-Lambton's drink sector

Tourism Sarnia-Lambton (TSL) has launched a summertime contest aimed at promoting local wineries, breweries, and cideries.

When customers visit one of the 13 participating businesses, listed below, they will receive a ballot to be entered into a draw to win a grand prize worth $2,500. Some of the grand prize items include a Broil King Keg charcoal grill, two Muskoka chairs, and gift certificates.

The “Cheers to the Coast" Ultimate Summer Backyard Giveaway Contest will run until August 31. Additional weekly prizes will also be available.

TSL Executive Director Mark Perrin said it's an exciting opportunity for local businesses and for residents who have been cooped up over the last few months.

"This is a great chance to get people out to the patios and really enjoying and visiting those establishments and supporting local," he said.

The "Cheers to the Coast" program originally launched in 2018. At the time, Perrin said there were only six or seven drink locations participating in the contest. This year, the program has been revamped to include more locations. A "drink trail map" has also been posted online for interested residents.

"It has just shown the growth in just a few years of how many partners are on board with the drink sector," said Perrin, adding that the sector will likely grow over the coming years.

"The area itself is getting to be well established," he said. "We have visitors and tourists that are asking about the different wineries and breweries and cideries that are in the area."

Perrin said ballots for the draw will be collected on the last day of the contest and a winner will be announced on September 1. He said the draw will likely be filmed live on Facebook and Instagram.
