COVID-19 death toll in Sarnia-Lambton surpasses 60

Lambton Public Health is reporting another death linked to COVID-19.

The health unit said an individual in their 50s died in hospital. Since the start of the pandemic over a year ago, there have been 61 COVID-related deaths in Sarnia-Lambton.

Bluewater Health on Tuesday reported the 49th related death at the hospital, a 51-year-old woman.  There are two COVID-positive patients in hospital.

The number of confirmed cases increased by six to 3,499 on Wednesday, and the number of cases considered resolved went up by three to 3,403, increasing the active case count by two to 35.

The rate of infection per 100,000 dropped to 24 for the week of May 23 to 29, down from 40 the week before.

The positivity rate also dropped from 1.8 per cent to 1.3 per cent.

To date, 77,597 Lambton residents have received a COVID-19 vaccine, including 8,405 who have both shots. That's 63.9 per cent of the eligible population.
