Flood watch issued for Lake Huron shoreline

Windy conditions over southern Lake Huron Wednesday night may cause some flooding along the shoreline.

The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority issued a flood watch Wednesday afternoon.

Conservation officials said strong north winds were expected to gust up to 70 kilometres per hour overnight, which could cause waves of up to two metres in height.

Aside from elevated water levels along the Lake Huron shoreline, minor flooding is possible in natural floodplain areas. The conservation authority also said powerful waves and shoreline erosion is possible in the Old Lakeshore Road area of Bright's Grove.

The flood watch will remain in effect until 12 p.m. Thursday.

The conservation authority is asking residents to be careful around flooded areas and to avoid the shoreline during this time.
