COVID outbreak at Bluewater Health declared over

An outbreak of COVID-19 at the Acute Medicine Unit at Bluewater Health in Sarnia has been declared over.

The unit has been closed to new admissions since the outbreak was declared on May 10, and new admissions were admitted to the General Medicine Unit instead.

During the outbreak, five staff members and four patients tested positive for the virus.

Communications and Public Affairs Chief Julia Oosterman said enhanced precautions, cleaning and infection control were in place to ensure no further transmission.

"Enhanced monitoring shows no evidence of further transmission between patients or staff," Oosterman said in a news release Wednesday. "Diligent infection prevention and control measures were key in helping control this outbreak. Bluewater Health is grateful for the support of all staff and professional staff, the COVID-19 swabbing team, and the community during this time."

The hospital had nine COVID positive patients in its care Wednesday.
