Multi-use outdoor rink planned in Camlachie

Exciting plans for a new outdoor rink are on the drawing board in Camlachie.

Plympton-Wyoming council unanimously supported the Huron Shores Optimists plan to fundraise for the construction of an outdoor rink at a recent meeting.

Club President Bruce Moulton said they want to build a multi-purpose and multi-seasonal structure that can serve all ages.

He told council the first phase would focus on the construction of an ice pad, and the second phase would see a roof built. The structure would not be enclosed.

Moulton said they want the recreational pad to be used as a skating surface in the winter and for sports like pickleball in the warmer months.

He said it could also be used for art shows, a farmers market or even outdoor weddings.

While a specific site has yet to be approved, the club has proposed building the rink on land beside the Camlachie Community Centre.

The Optimists plan to apply for senior government funding from the Trillium Foundation in addition to their own fundraising campaign.
