Bluewater Health reports two more COVID-related deaths

Bluewater Health is reporting two COVID-19 related deaths over the last few days.

Since the start of the pandemic, there's been 41 related deaths at the hospital. Lambton Public Health's death toll remains at 56 because it only includes local residents.

Bluewater Health has been taking patients from hotspot areas outside Sarnia-Lambton as directed by the provincial government.

Communications Chief Julia Oosterman said currently nine of their 14 positive patients are from outside Lambton County. She said seven are under 60-years of age, nine are in intensive care and eight are on ventilators.

The health unit reported four new confirmed cases of the virus Monday.

Since the start of the pandemic, there's been 3,332 infections locally, of which 3,194 are considered resolved, up six from Sunday. The number of active cases is down by two to 82. There's been 451cases involving variants of concern since March 3.

There are four workplace and institutional outbreaks. The latest was declared on Friday, May 7 at Afton Park Place in Sarnia. Two residents and four staff members at the long-term care home have tested positive for the virus.
