A new collaborative website launched this week will provide enhanced emergency notifications from Sarnia-Lambton industry.

The Bluewater Association for Safety Environment and Sustainability (BASES) is a one-stop shop for all things related to Community Awareness Emergency Response (CAER), the Industrial Educational Cooperative (IEC), and Sarnia-Lambton Environmental Association (SLEA).

It’s a central hub for information about workplace health and safety, environment and science, and emergency preparedness.

BASES General Manager Vince Gagner said they’re also taking the existing MyCNN municipal alert service to the next level.

“Industry is now able to provide the public with notifications that are related to non-emergencies, events that are happening that they want the public to know,” said Gagner. “It also allows industry to provide updates of what could be happening during an emergency in terms of updating them and providing information on what could be going on during the response.”

Gagner added, however, that industry members aren’t required to post alerts, calling it a voluntary service above and beyond legal requirements.

He said it will be a benefit for different companies to share best practices with one another.

Gagner said CAER, IEC, and SLEA, have all been working closely with government, First Nations, Lambton College, local contractors and tradespeople to make the site a reality.
