It's lucky 13 for Sarnia Sting in OHL draft lottery

The Sarnia Sting will select 13th overall in this year's Ontario Hockey League draft.

The league held its first ever draft lottery on Wednesday night, with each team having an equal chance of securing top pick.

The first selection went to Sudbury, while Oshawa and Guelph round out the top three.

The Niagara Ice Dogs don't have a first round pick. The club was found to be in violation of player recruitment rules in 2019.

Unlike past years, the 2021 priority selection will see member teams select in a serpentine arrangement. The Sting will also select 30th (Erie) and 52nd to round out the first three picks.

Sting GM Dylan Seca looks forward to draft day.

"We now have a month to really narrow in our findings, we’ll look at our lists, do more interviews and watch video," said Seca. "Our scouting staff has been, and continues to work diligently and we are confident. This is an exciting night."

The first three rounds of the draft will be on Friday, June 4 beginning at 7 p.m., while rounds four through 15 will be conducted on Saturday, June 5 at 9 a.m.

The Sting had the third overall choice in 2020, and selected Max Namestnikov.

The Sting will have the 9th overall pick in the U18 Draft, and the 24th overall pick in the CHL Import Draft.
