Bluewater Health ICU at 115%, majority of COVID patients from outside Sarnia-Lambton

Bluewater Health's intensive care unit is currently operating at 115 per cent capacity.

Communications Chief Julia Oosterman said there are 14 COVID-19 positive patients in hospital, 11 of them are from outside Sarnia-Lambton and 10 are on ventilators. Nine of the 14 are over the age of 60 and five under 60.

Oosterman said Bluewater Health has access to ventilators through a provincial pool.

Hospitals across the province have been instructed to ramp down by cancelling certain elective procedures to free up capacity for patients from hotspot areas where hospitals are struggling to keep up.

Sarnia-Lambton's active COVID-19 case count stayed steady Thursday at 84.

Lambton Public Health reported nine new confirmed cases for a total of 3,296 while cases considered resolved increased by nine to 3,156.

The number of active institutional and workplace outbreaks dropped by two to four.

Outbreaks at the Lambton College residence, impacting 12 students, and at the North Lambton Child Care Centre in Watford were declared over on Wednesday.
