Vaccine registration open for 55-plus in Sarnia-Lambton

Vaccine registration has now been expanded to Sarnia-Lambton residents aged 55 and older.

Lambton Public Health said due to an expected increase in vaccine supply from the federal government, the province will be able to further expand delivery in the coming weeks.

Vaccinations are continuing for Indigenous populations, essential workers including teachers and childcare workers and for adult recipients of chronic home health care.

Lambton Medical Officer of Health Dr. Sudit Ranade said we are at a critical juncture in the pandemic.

"While our current case count in the region is relatively low, our situation is still extremely precarious and could change at any moment if we let our guard down," said Dr. Ranade. "We have highly transmissible variants of concern (VOCs) circulating in the community which is very concerning. The best way to stop transmission is to follow all public health guidelines."

To date, 47,051 doses of vaccine have been administered to Lambton area residents, that's over 40 per cent of the eligible population.
