Just two new COVID cases, active infections drop to 75

Lambton Public Health reported just two new cases of COVID-19 Monday.

The health unit said there's now been 3,190 cases in Sarnia-Lambton since the start of the pandemic.  Cases considered resolved increased by five to 3,059, lowering the active case count by three to 75.

The death toll increased to 56 over the weekend. Lambton Public Health reported Saturday that an individual in their 80's died in hospital.

There are four workplace and institutional outbreaks, unchanged in the last 24 hours. An outbreak declared April 19 at the Lambton College Residence had spread to 10 students as of Monday. The North Lambton Childcare Centre-St. Peter Canisius site in Watford is in active outbreak with two cases and there are still outbreaks at two unnamed workplaces.

Bluewater Health has 12 positive patients in hospital, up one from Sunday. Three are under the age of 60. Communications Chief Julia Oosterman said seven are from outside Sarnia-Lambton as hospitals across the province share resources to ease capacity issues in hotspot areas including the GTA. There are five positive patients in intensive care and two are on ventilators.
