Lambton mobile immunization unit makes first house call

The community's mobile COVID-19 immunization team administered its first shot to a homebound client Thursday.

Lambton Public Health said Vivian, a 90-year-old resident of Lambton Shores, was thrilled to be immunized and was pleased the team could come directly to her home.

On Thursday, a total of 10 people were vaccinated through the mobile unit, which will run five to six days a week.

Health unit spokesman Darren Rogers said this method of delivery takes time but it provides immunizations to some of the most vulnerable people in Lambton County.

The mobile team consists of Lambton Public Health staff and partners Bluewater Health and Lambton County EMS.

The team has been providing immunizations since late January in long-term care and retirement homes, congregate living facilities, as well as in partnership with First Nations.

To date, the team has delivered about 6,100 doses of vaccine.
