Two charged after robbery victim at knifepoint pocket-dials police

Two suspects were arrested in a bizarre armed robbery after the victim, at knifepoint, pocket-dialed 9-1-1.

Sarnia police said at around 3:30 a.m. Thursday, two suspects went to an address near Devine Street and East Street. They convinced the victim, who did not know them, to allow them inside where they allegedly held the man at knifepoint, took some of his property and demanded he e-transfer them money.

Police said as the suspects forced the man to walk to a local bank to withdraw money, the victim called 9-1-1 from his pocket and spoke loudly so dispatchers could hear what was happening.

Officers arrived, took the suspects into custody without incident, and seized two knives. The victim was not injured.

Randy Richard Beatty, 40, and Brandon Alan Lavoie, 27, both of Sarnia, are charged with:

· One count of break and enter

· One count of forcible confinement

· One count of uttering threats to cause death

· One count of robbery

· One count of assault with a weapon

· One count of weapons dangerous

Both men were in custody pending bail hearings.
