Sarnia-Lambton vaccination clinics fully booked until early May

Supply uncertainty remains an issue in Sarnia-Lambton's COVID-19 immunization roll-out.

Lambton Public Health said Wednesday that its clinics are fully booked until May 5 and they ask that eligible residents be patient.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Sudit Ranade, during a media briefing, said additional clinics will be open for booking soon.

"A lot of our clinics are actually fully booked until about May 5 but we are working to add additional clinic spots based on the allocations that we've received, so those will show up on our website soon although I don't have a specific day or time for that.," said Ranade. "In the near term there do seem to be some supply interruptions with Moderna as well as potentially with AstraZeneca. There's no word yet on when we're going to get Johnson & Johnson or the Janssen vaccine, and the Pfizer supply seems to be fairly stable."

Dr. Ranade said the mass immunization clinic at Point Edward Arena is currently operating three days a week.

He said in terms of essential workers, vaccinations are being administered to the province's first group of frontline workers who can't work from home.

"I would expect probably at some point next month we would be able to move into the second group of those eligible workers," he said.

Lambton County moved into Phase 2 of the province's immunization program at the beginning of April. It targets four groups based on Age, Setting, Essential Workers and Medical.

As of Wednesday, a total of 40,103 doses of vaccine have been administered including 2,340 second doses. That's 34 per cent of the eligible population.
