Efforts underway to control COVID outbreak at Lambton College

At least five students living at the Lambton College residence are self-isolating after testing positive for COVID-19.

An outbreak was declared at the London Road facility on Monday.

Director of Facilities Management Brent Thomas said they're working with Lambton Public Health to limit further spread.

He said enhanced safety measures have been in place since the start of the pandemic.

"Those include measures such as mandatory COVID awareness training that's required before you even screen to get into the building," said Thomas. "Each building has a designated entrance staff to ensure those entering the building are symptom-free. We have ongoing enhanced cleaning measures in place, and those were put in place last year. On-site section sizes certainly meet social distancing protocols and align with ministry guidelines."

Thomas said every student living in residence has their own room and private bathroom, no guests are permitted, and common areas are closed off.

There's also food drop-off, and 24/7 support for students.

Additional COVID testing is being conducted on campus this week, and arrangements are being made so that impacted students can finish their semesters.

The outbreak marks the first at the school since the pandemic began over a year ago.

There are less than two weeks remaining in the semester.
