COVID incidence rate continues to decline in Sarnia-Lambton

The COVID-19 incidence rate in Sarnia-Lambton continues to drop.

The rate of infection per 100,000 population was 59 for the week of April 11 to 17, down from 89 the week before. The positivity rate has also gone down to 1.9 per cent from 2.8 per cent.

Lambton Public Health reported 17 new confirmed cases of the virus Wednesday, for a total of 3,142 since the start of the pandemic over a year ago. Cases considered resolved also increased by 17 to 3,003, leaving the number of active infections unchanged at 84.

There are three active workplace and institutional outbreaks, up one. The Lambton College Residence is in outbreak with five cases reported now, and there are outbreaks declared at two unnamed workplaces, one with five cases and one with eight.

Bluewater Health has eight COVID-positive patients in hospital, up one in the last 24 hours.

To date, 40,103 Lambton residents have received a COVID-19 vaccine, including 2,340 who have had both shots. That's 34 per cent of the eligible population.
