Sarnia pizzeria wins inaugural Blackburn 'Munch Madness' competition

Giresi's Pizza Factory has been crowned Sarnia-Lambton's favourite restaurant.

The East Street business won Blackburn Radio's inaugural Munch Madness, an online competition bracket with 64 participating local eateries. Giresi's beat out John's Restaurant on London Line for the win.

Owner/Operator Mike Giresi said he's learned a lot from competitors like John's Restaurant.

"The food was great, but you could always tell from the servers that were there, they always gave you unbelievable service," said Giresi. "That was something I learned from going there [John's Restaurant]. I've encouraged my staff to do the same. They bring a passion to their job, to give our customers good service and a great product. I'm grateful every day for what they bring."

Giresi's is a family-run business that has been serving the community for 42 years.

"We offer people a good product at a good price and try to deliver exceptional service," he said. " When you put those three things together, it's a recipe for success."

When Giresi realized it was between his pizzeria and John's, he reached out to his fans on social media for extra support, and it paid off.

"With the amount of amazing restaurants, I know these other business owners, they have a passion just like I do, they work hard at it like I do, so to be with these other business owners was a real honour."

Giresi's was presented the Munch Madness trophy and a plaque on Monday, April 14. Blackburn Radio also awarded Giresi's $3,000 in advertising. John's Restaurant received $1,500 worth of commercials for finishing second.

Blackburn launched the competition this year to show support for, and profile local businesses during the pandemic.
