New McDonald's coming to south Sarnia, 100 staff to be hired

Sarnia is getting a fifth McDonald's restaurant.

The Golden Arches are coming to the city's south end with a new store set to open in late August or early September, at 1111 Confederation Street.

Owner-Operators Colleen and Peter Buckley plan to hire around 100 full and part-time staff beginning in May.

"She and I are very excited about hiring an additional 100 people to join our organization," said Peter. "We haven't met them yet and they're out there, and there's going to be a big demand for full and part-time jobs."

The pair is also opening a McDonald's in Petrolia this July.

Peter said it's a very busy time for them despite the pandemic.

"We're fortunate to have drive-thru, and our drive-thrus are operating well. We feel that Confederation, it's the right time because we're busy enough that we think another one is necessary to better serve our guests and the community," he said. "The traffic patterns there are significant and have been growing year-over-year that we've been tracking."

Peter said local residents sure like their McDonald's.

"With two restaurants under construction right now, we have a big renovation of Christina Street in September -- it's our oldest location, we're completely renovating it -- we're doing everything we can to keep up with demand to make sure people are happy every time they come."

The Confederation store will be the Buckley's seventh.  They already have four locations in Sarnia, one in Strathroy and the new Petrolia restaurant currently under construction.
