Winning ticket in March Imperial Theatre draw worth over $300K

The Imperial Theatre has drawn the winning ticket for March's 50/50, with the winner taking home $317,200.

Executive Director Brian Austin pulled F-3436329. The lucky winner will be contacted by phone and email and named later.

Funds raised will support much-need capital projects at the Sarnia facility.

When the pandemic began, Austin thought they would have to hold off on work for about five years due to a lack of surplus funds.

He said thanks to the generous community support through the draws, work has already begun.

"They've gutted the old ladies' washroom and they're working on the two washrooms upstairs," said Austin. "We're also looking at replacing the seating in the auditorium, a much-needed roof replacement, some of the windows in the upper lobby also need replacing. We're going to get the place in great shape so that we can eventually re-open."

Other work includes the reconstruction of the men's washroom on the main floor lobby, a new sound system, and a fresh coat of paint for the auditorium.

Austin isn't sure when they'll be able to reopen, but is hopeful it can be in late fall or early winter.

Last month's take home prize was over $408,000, and Austin said the prize grew by $300,000 in the last weekend of sales.

From October 2020 to March 2021, the cash lottery has raised about $406,000 after expenses.
