Local COVID case count up 24, recoveries up 25

Sarnia-Lambton added 24 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 Thursday morning while recoveries increased by 25.

Lambton Public Health said there have been 2,859 cases since March of 2020, including 50 deaths.

Cases considered resolved climbed to 2,631, dropping the active case-count by one to 178.

The number of active outbreaks remained unchanged at 12 over the previous 24 hours. An outbreak involving one staff member at Vision Nursing Home was declared March 31. An outbreak declared at Rosewood Retirement Village March 23 has now infected 18 residents and two staff. As of Thursday there were five outbreaks in retirement and long-term care homes, three in schools and four at unnamed workplaces.

There were seven COVID-positive patients in hospital at Bluewater Health. Communications Chief Julia Oosterman said three of them are under the age of 60 and four are over age 60. She said two of the seven patients are on ventilators.
